Calypsonian, Winston Scaraborough aka The
Original De Fosto Himself. Most of his songs are sung to
honour the greats of Trinidad's local cultural fraternity.
He's an abandoned baby, nurses named him Winston, he got
the last name Scaraborough, that's where he was
supposedly found. |

andere lokale Künstler. Er war ein Findelkind und kennt
seine wirkliche Herkunft nicht. Im Spital haben ihm die
Krankenschwestern den Namen Winston gegeben. Den
Nachnamen Scaraborough erhielt er von der Ortschaft wo
er gefunden wurde. |

Desperadoes is a steel orchestra from
Laventille and Rudolph Charles was their
captain for many years. Later arranged by Clive
Bradley. It is considered one of the best steelbands
in Trinbago. They won the Steelband Musical Festival
more times than any other steelband. |

Dimanche Gras is French (Great Sunday) and
is the title of the main carnival event called dimanche
gras night. On dimanche gras which is carnival Sunday
night the calypso competition and the King and Queen
of the bands are held. It is a spectacle to begin the
carnival on Monday morning (jouvert) |

Dingolay is a word used by early Calypsonians and particularly Kitch. It is a
dance but a special dance with erotic and sensuous
overtones. It is a wine with sexual suggestiveness. It
is a tease. It is used by women who flirt and men who
respond. |

eine bestimmte Form des Tanzes auszudrücken. Eigentlich
bedeuted es "tanzen mit unüblichen Hand- und
Fuss-Bewegungen", in gutem Deutsch würden wir ihn
"erotischer Tanz zur Eroberung des anderen Geschlechtes"
bezeichnen. Was dem Spanier der Flamenco, ist Dingolay
in T&T. |

festival that is now a public holiday in Trinbago. It is
a festival of lights. |

Lichter und hat hinduistische Wurzeln. Es findet
alljährlich im November statt. Mit ihm wird der Triumpf
des Guten über das Böse gefeiert, Lakshmis, die
Göttin der Schönheit, der Liebe, des Reichtungs und des
Lichtes wird geehrt. Ueberall werden Deyas
aufgestellt, das sind kleine, mit Kokosöl gefüllte
Tonschalen, die in der Divalinacht angezündet werden. |

Dudup is a bass drum. It is a drum with two notes split
in half on the drum. |

Das Dudup, auch
Grumbler oder Baylay genannt, ist ein Bass Pan
mit zwei Noten. Es war populär in den Old Time
Steelbands, wird aber auch heute noch zur Verstärkung
der Rhythm Section verwendet. WIE ein Dudup getunt wird
(oder eben nicht) ist eine spannende und andere
Geschichte. In kurzen Worten: Es ist ein sehr
kompatibles Instrument in der Pan Familie. Die beste und
kürzeste Erklärung erhielt ich von einem Trini Tuner,
als er sagte: *Ein Dudup ist dann in Tune in wenn es "she
bumsy stinks" spielen kann". |
