Eid ul Fitr is a Muslim festival (fasting
for one month) and is a holiday ending with Eid ul Adha
in Trinbago. |

moslemische Neujahrsfest und findet am letzten Tag des
Ramadan statt. Das Datum richtet sich nach dem
islamischen Kalender und wird mit dem Eid ul Adha Fest
beendet. |

Engine Room is the name given to the
rhythm section in the steelband. David Rudder has
a calypso about it called the same. |

Der "Maschinenraum" ist
die Percussion Section einer Steelband. Verschiedene
Instrumente gehören dazu: Drum, Congas, Chak Chak (Maracas),
Scratcher (auch Guiro), Cow Bell, Iron (verschiedene
Tonlagen), Toc-Toc. Sie sind - wie das Wort sagt - die
Maschine oder der Herzschrittmacher jeder Steelband. |

Extempo |
| |
When Calypsonians enter a singing
competition extemporaneously. One will sing a verse and
the other will answer. This continues until one of the Calypsonians is unable to continue. The most famous of
Extempo Calypsonians was Pretender who died a few
years ago. Today the extempo champs are Gypsy and
Black Serge who have won the Extempo competitions
over the years. |

Calypso-Sänger im
Wettbewerb, mindestens zu zweit werfen sie Verse zur
gleichen Melodie in die Runde, ähnlich unseren
Schnitzelbänken. Die Verse werden ad lib gedichtet und
sollen möglichst viele Lacher erzielen. Verlierer ist,
wer nicht mehr weiter weiss. Ein grossartiger Extempo
Sänger war Lord Pretender. Heute sind es Gypsy
und Black Serge. |
