Ghosts

Ghosts are sprits. It is a part of Trinbago folklore.

In Trinidad wird man in den Genuss einer Menge Geistergeschichten kommen. Entweder hatten sie selber ein Erlebnis mit Geistern, oder sie kennen jemanden der eines hatte, oder der Bruder vom besten Freund hatte mal was mit Geistern erlebt... viele dieser Geisterfiguren wird man am Carnival Umzug als farbenfrohe Figur antreffen

Former President of Pan Trinbago (one of the best) in the 1960s when it was called the Steelband Association of Trinidad and Tobago.

Gollop, Sydney

Elected president of the very first National Steelband Association of Trinidad and Tobago in 1950, (what is Pan Trinbago today). He passed away on August 8, 2006.

Präsident des allerersten Nationalen Steelband Vereines von Trinidad und Tobago 1950 (heute Pan Trinbago) Er verstarb am 8. August 2006 im Alter von 87 Jahren. Und erst jetzt hört man was für bahnbrechende und hervorragende Dinge er für das Allgemeinwohl der Steelbands geleistet hat. Selbstlos, unermüdlich und ein ganzes Leben lang. Er wird als Vater der Einigkeit betitelt. An seiner Beerdigung hatte der heutige Präsident Patrick Arnold eingestanden, dass Gollop nie staatliche Anerkennung erhielt, ungleich vielen anderen, die viel weniger leisteten (kurz; man hatte den guten Mann vergessen). Jetzt wird angekündigt, dass man einen Sydney Gollop Wohltätigkeits Fond einführen wird, welcher Panists in Not zu Gute kommen soll.

Green Eyes

First steel band of Gerald Forsyth, named after the night-club next to their panyard im Woodbrook. Made up by panmen; Andrew 'Bambi' Contant, Arthur Kennedy, Cecil Fields, Clifford Gill, Desmond Gibson, Emmanuel 'Corbeau Jack" Riley, Joseph 'Boy Blue' Mansing, Lennox Liverock, Michael "NatC" Contant, Rolph Henry. The band claimed to be one of the first bands in Trinidad who used to play on chromatic pans, in the late 40s.

Griffith, Beverly

Beverly Griffith was the arranger of a local brass band in T&T. He was recruited by Rudolph Charles. In 1963 Beverly arranged for the Desperadoes Steel Orchestra at the inaugural Panorama and got 3rd place. He got a 2nd place in 1964. In 1965, Beverly arranged the "Marriage of Figaro" and won the classical Competition at the Better Village (Better Village is a local competition where Villiages vie Villages). However, 1965 was the first and only year that Steel Orchestras were the genre. In 1966, Beverly gave Desperadoes its first Panorama title. Beverly and Desperadoes also won the Bomb Competition and was voted Best Playing Steel Orchestra on both carnival Monday and Tuesday. That feat was named the Triple Crown and no other Steel Orchestra has won it since. Beverly is the arranger who made Desperadoes a pan giant. All 37 tunes on Desperadoes' first three albums and 6 tunes on three 45 rpm singles are his arrangements. He was a very prolific arranger. Because of the many tunes he arranged for Despers, they were the only Steel Orchestra that never repeated the same tune at a Dance. Yes, Steel Orchestras were hired as musicians back in the sixties. Beverly migrated to the US in late 1966. In the year 1985, he was asked to return because of the departure of Clive Bradley and he and Robert Greenidge collaborated on the arrangements and gave Desperadoes its 6th victory.

Beverly Griffith war der Arrangeur einer lokalen Blaskapelle in Trinidad. Er wurde von Rudolf Charles angestellt und arrangierte für das Desperadoes Steel Orchestra, anlässlich des ersten Panorama Wettbewerbes in 1963. Mit seinem Arrangement kam das Orchester auf Platz 3, in 1964 auf Platz 2. 1965 arrangierte Griffith "Figaros Hochzeit" und gewann den Wettbewerb der klassischen Musik Wettbewerb 'Better Village' (ein lokaler Wettbewerb wo Dorf gegen Dorf antritt). 1965 war das erste Jahr, in dem auch Steelpan Orchester an diesem Wettbewerb teilnahmen. Mit seinem Arrangement gewann Desperadoes 1966 den ersten Panorama Titel. Gleichzeitig wurden sie auch Sieger des Bomb Competitions und wurden als Best Playing Band am Carnival gekürt. Ein dreifach Sieg im selben Jahr, was keinem Steel Orchester jemals wieder gelang. Alle 37 Musikstücke auf Desperadoes ersten drei Alben und 6 Stücke auf 45 Singles wurden von Griffith arrangiert. Griffith migrierte 1966 in die USA. Als Clive Bradley 1985 Desperadoes verliess, kehrte Griffith nach Trinidad zurück, um gemeinsam mit Robert Greenidge der Band zu ihrem 6. Panorama Sieg zu verhelfen.

Guiness Cavaliers

Initially Gondoliers, steel band from San Fernando that won two Panoramas; 1965 and 1967. It's leader was Lennox "Bobby" Mohammed who was a great arranger in Panorama and the Music Festival. In 1966 Music Festival he arranged Carmen for the Cavaliers.

Steelband von Lennox 'Bobby' Mohammed. Zu Anfang hiess die Band Gondoliers, mit Panyard in Mon Repos im Süden Trinidads. Die Cavaliers wurden der Stolz des Südens als sie 1965 und 1967 das Panorama gewannen. Ebenfalls gingen sie am Music Festival 1966 mit Carmen als Sieger hervor.

Midrange instrument, usually doing the strummings. Available as single, double, and triple set.

Instrument. Der Name wird hergeleitet von den Strummings die die Pans in traditioneller Calypso Musik spielen, diese Strummings tönen wie jene von Gitarren.
Es gibt Single, Double und Triple Guitars. Das Guitar gehört zu den Midrange Pans.

Green Corner

Green corner is at the corner of St. Vincent street and Park street in Port of Spain. It was a popular liming spot in the 50s, 60s, and early 70s. Mostly guys from St. Vincent street used to lime there. Also, since it was the spot to get a taxi to carnage the American sailors stationed at chagaramus base, used to come there to solicit prostitutes and gamble. It was called green corner because the store on that corner was painted in a loud green color.

Der Green Corner ist an der Ecke der St. Vincent Strasse und Park Strasse in Port of Spain. Man traf sich hier für Limes, hier fanden aber auch wüsteste Blutbäder statt. Der Green Corner wurde so genannt, weil das Gebäude in einem grellen Grün angemalt war.

Grundig

Grundig was a famous radio with a powerful sound. It was top of the line among radios. In the 1950s Neville Jules, captain of Trinidad All Stars steel orchestra created a pan which he called the grundig. It was famous for its tone among the steelbands.

Das Radiogerät der Firma Grundig war eine beliebte und bekannte Marke in Trinidad. In den 50ern produzierte Neville Jules, Leader von Trinidad All Stars eine Pan, welche er wegen dem speziellen Sound Grundig nannte.
