Noel; backing many of the calypsonians at
Kaiso House on the pan, Earl Junior; trains and manages
Afropan in Toronto in his father's absence, Olujimi and
Aziza; both panists, Adisa; record engineer. Father Earl Sr.
originates from West Trinidad (we probably have to admit
here: the West is the best for soloists) and is a former member and arranger for
Invaders and Starlift, now a member of
Phase II. He has his own school called Cayman School
for Pan in Cayman. In Toronto, there's a consensus on who the
best players are: Earl La Pierre and his five kids.
Their band Afropan is being judged the winning
steelband at Toronto's annual Caribana for the 26th time
in the last 33 years. Earl La Pierre Sr. is probably the
winningest steel band arranger in the world. |

Ton-Ingenieur. Vater Earl Sr. kommt ursprünglich aus dem
Westen Trinidads und war Member und Arranger für
Invaders und Starlift, zur Zeit Member von
Phase II. Auf den Cayman Islands hat er eine eigene
Musikschule; die Cayman School for Pan. In
Toronto spielt die Familie zusammen im Afropan
Orchestra, und es besteht kein Zweifel, La Pierre und
seine 5 Kids sind die Besten Panists Toronto's. Afropan wurde
von 33 Toronto Caribana Competitions bereits 26 mal Sieger. Earl
La Pierre Sr. ist somit mit ziemlicher Sicherheit der
Steelband Arrangeur, der weltweit die meisten Panorama Siege
vorzeigen kann. |

Lewis, Lennox 'Darkie' |
| |
Darkie was one of Trinidad's top tuners
and again Trinidad has failed them. He died on Monday,
9th October 2006 night and his body was only discovered
on Wednesday. He was cremated at the Belgrove
Crematorium at Tacarigua in east Trinidad. The issue
with Darkie is really sad, there were 27 persons present
to send him off for his last journey, and up to now
neither an official death notice nor a word in the
media. He made Pamberi's first set of chromed
instruments in 1980, also was the tuner for
Casablanca when they won the Steelband Festival in
1982 performing "The 1812 Overture". The band went on to
perform the same piece with the Boston Pops Orchestra in
the USA that same year, performing on Darkie pans. He
was a great tuner. His pans were strong, with beautiful
tone. |

2006 und wurde erst am folgenden Mittwoch gefunden. Bis
jetzt ist weder eine Todesanzeige noch irgendein Artikel
über ihn zu lesen. Man wundert sich was wir Panists ohne
Pan Tuners denn spielen würden... |
