Barrels to Beethoven is an organization focused on Arts Education, Making and Innovation. Our programs utilize the steelpan, a musical instrument from the Caribbean, as the tool and basis for our educational programming. Barrels to Beethoven provides engaging, entertaining and interactive opportunities for the public, especially youth, to learn about the steelpan, music theory and performance technique. The ultimate goal of the organization is to provide a unique option for arts education as well as develop a new generation of steelpan players, builders, teachers and tuners, ensuring the growth and advancement of the instrument. The performance will feature both the youth ensemble and the professional band.
The Rhythm Is Life Steel Band formed in 2005 to provide a learning lab for band directors who were teaching steel pan groups in their schools. The sound mixes Caribbean island music (calypso, soca, and reggae) with rock, pop, and other musics from around the world. Thanks to the City of Glendale Performing Arts Partnership Grant, this concert is free and open to the public.
