It’s a concert at a private house in Fishoek (address via email to all those who book) with Pops Mohamed, Dave Reynolds and special guest, Shaun Johannes.
The show’s called “Ancient Wisdom”, featuring Pops on kora (21string West African harp), mbira (Zimbabwean thumb piano) and Khoisan mouth bow, Dave on Caribbean steelpans, 10-string classical guitar and Paraguayan harp, and Shaun on bass.
Doors open 19h45, the show starts soon after this. Bring your own drinks, we’ll provide the glasses.
Pops Mohamed is SA’s leading indigenous crossover artist. He has released 38 albums to date, been awarded three Lifetime Achievement Awards and regularly tours the world with the likes of Andreas Vollenweider, Cat Stevens and Baaba Maal.
Dave Reynolds is SA’s leading steelpan player, an award winning composer, acoustic guitarist and harpist. He has recorded and performed all over the world with Andy Narell, Hugh Masekela, Steve Newman & Gito Baloi (of Tananas), Tony Cox and Paul Hanmer to name a few. His most recent solo album “The Light of Day” was nominated for three SAMAs.
Shaun Johannes has played bass with George Benson, Jonathan Butler, Freshly Ground, the late Johnny Clegg, the late Hugh Masekela and others. He currently lectures in jazz studies at the UCT College of Music.
Dave & Pops have done over 200 concerts together. They are currently composing music for a movie about the rituals and ceremonies of the San people of the Kalahari, taking time out to do this concert for you.
