Carnival in Lucerne is a crazy and colourful affair, with parades, musical performances and a motley assortment of locals hiding behind masks and outrageous costumes. The tradition dates back to the 1400s, and is one of the highlights of the cultural calendar in the town, and probably the biggest and best in Switzerland.
