Hi Monika, How great it was to
see you - especially as it was such a surprise! You
are such a great soul Monika - you are real
inspiration. It's always so good to see you.
As
usual Judith
has lived up to her high level of
proficiency,
and what can I say about Pan Kultur - they
treated us like family. What we got from all our
friends there like you and all Pan Kultur, can
never be bought. We all had such a splendid time and could
not stop talking about it on the way back. There
is something so magical about meeting people
like this and having a great time playing music.

Latest Gossip: Mark the
weekend 25th March 2006. Party at PanKultur Dortmund.
Featuring Nostalgia and Ebony steel band.... I just hope
they'll have more visitors than Paul had last night ;-)
it looks f*** hilarious when the band's bigger than the
audience...
Hi Monika, thanks for coming last night and all though
I’m not an elected spokes person for the band I would
also like to thank you on behalf of PanFriends who
entertained and motivated the attending multitude last
night.
Recently you made a very exacting correction on your
website about Clive Bradley not being the only arranger
to win in two countries in the same year. I humbly claim
this same right and take this opportunity to adjust the
above perspective of yesterday evening.
First of all last night they were not my visitors, they
were the invitees of Panch and PanFriends.
However it’s easy to understand how it might have looked
different. There were in fact 15 members of the band and
27 “visitors”.
With everyone’s attention focused on the band’s
performance and no customers to serve at the bar it just
so happens that I took the time & trouble to count heads
during the band’s 3rd set. With another 27 I would have
struggled to arrive at an exact figure.
We look forward to not even having the time or
opportunity to “count heads” in the future. But the lack
of interest and support from the large pan scene in this
region suggests that the collective “We” would seam to
be trying too hard to appeal to the wrong “heads”.
This is not a new phenomena in Bern. I can remember
attending “Pan Limes” in the scout house in
Engehaldenstrasse back in the mid 90’s where only small
numbers attended it just didn’t look or feel so bad as
the location was much smaller, in fact when Funland
played for one of these we were very lucky that there
was someone there to hold the video camera! I think that
it is reasonable to state that the steel pan scene in
Switzerland is alive and kicking. However where it lives
and what it defines as “kicks” can only be left to wide
interpretation.
Maybe if the Nations two resident tuners Esa and Werner
publish quarterly sales figures for their new “LUFT-PAN”
we will all have a better understanding of the
situation. Even the numbers of serious inquiries will be
worth a good giggle. |

Hellödele Monika
Du freust Dich
auf's mega mega Curry von Paul? Du wirst es kriegen!
Freue mich sehr, Dich am Freitag wieder zu sehen!!!!
Tschüssi bis morn
Fränzi
Monika:
Yep girl! I wish I could hire Paul as my private cook,
cuz I can't cook at all. Know sometimes they call the fire
brigade :-) But that thiny part between the black burnt
outside and the still uncooked inside of my steaks is
not all that bad as they try to imply.
Bussi & Tschö bis am Friitig

Dear pan-jumbie, I completed
my pre-surf of your advents calendar and I now claim my
curiosity award for 2005!
I look forward to receiving this distinctive honour but I
must say my curiosity was not driven by what the contents
may or may not be but by your responses to early surfing.
Well done with this brilliant idea, I wonder how many others
other than myself will copy you next year! |

Ken:
Cool Jumbie, Who did you play for in Trinidad?
Where from in Trini.

Monika:
I guess I have to disappoint you, I'm a Swiss
residing in Switzerland. |
Ken:
I am not disappointed Monika, You are doing a great
job promoting steel. I remember in my early years thinking I was a pan
jumbie, but I have to surrender to you. I and all the other so called pan jumbies. Thanks
again for a good job spreading the culture. Gone for
now, lots of musical love to you. Ken |

When there is steel band and steel drums I always want to
participate. It is my life. This is from Courtney Leiba,
Calypso Pan-tas-tic, from Down under, and also known as
Trinidad Scratcher man. Courtney lives in Kambah, a surburb
in Canberra. I have been playing music in Australia since
1977. I just spent two weeks in Trinidad. I talked to
Patrick Arnold, Pan Trinbago, Our Lord Mayor of
Port-of-Spain and Minister of Culture and a true ambassador
of promoting steel band music in Australia. My teaching
Australian friends about our Trinidad culture. |

Hallo People,
Eure Seite ist sehr umfassend,
insbesondere was die CH Auftritte betrifft. Riesenarbeit.
Bravo und danke.
Überhaupt ist pan-jumbie.com
sehr informativ und für die "Szene" erfrischend.
Selber habe ich etwas Mühe mit
den Artikeln in "Schwyzerdütsch", obwohl ich ein
waschechter Helvetier bin.
Bin mich ans Schnelllesen
gewöhnt, geht aber nicht in Mundart.
Gruss, Ruedi Kocher, Fascinating Feeling, Rafz

Ganz herzlichen Dank für den
begeisternden Bericht über das Festival Männedorf! Sehr
wirklich (sorry) Affengeil. Ich bin gespannt auf die
Feedbacks!! |

Thanks for putting out the word on my Ramones tribute. That is really cool. I have only put the word out
this week and already people like you, Monte
Melnick (Ramones tour manager for 30 years), Ida (their
publicist) and MTV have contacted me about the
project. I had no idea I would get such a great
reaction. It will be available digitally June 14th
and from the looks of it I might have to get it
pressed. That might take a month.
Thanx again,
Tracy Thornton |
