Liebe Monika
Ich verfolge immer wieder, was so auf deiner Homepage
abgeht. Ich bin schlicht begeistert. Pan Jumbie ist nun
einmal eine absolut hoch stehende professionelle
Internet-Seite.

I am a panman, who has lived on both sides
of the Atlantic, and have settled in Mexico,
near Cancun, where I have been spreading the
word and the joy of the steelpan, for the
past several years. While browsing your
webpage, I came across the links section and
thought I might ask you to consider
including my website, among your other
links.
The steel pan has been slow to make its
presence felt, or even known in Latin
America, even though it's so close to the
Caribbean, but we are here and that fact
needs to be known, at least to fellow pan
jumbies around the world. Please view the
accompanying file and visit our
website, for more
information. Kind Regards, Bryan (Sayman) Parris

Hallo Monika
Du bist richtig informiert;
keinen Karneval machen wollten. Geprobt wurde jeden
zweiten Sonntag.
an anderen Anlässen. München, Wehr und Herten sowie
Nizza und Mallorca waren die weiteren Auslandreisen.
1998 kam die zweite CD „Just
For You“. Danach war der Höhepunkt überschritten – dies
aus verschiedenen Gründen, auf die ich hier nicht
eingehen will.
diesen ins
Netz gestellten Tunes
steckt. Freundliche Grüsse
Edgar Schaad

Hello pan-jumbie,
The clip of the “Calypso Girls” is familiar
to me. I was a teacher at this school from
1978 to 1992.
The school is St Dominic’s RC Primary
located in Morvant a working-class district
just outside Port of Spain, the capital city.
The person playing the cuatro is George
Martin a teacher at the school. The student
with the microphone is Natasha Wilson, she
was preparing for the National Junior
Calypso Monarch Competition. The other
students were the chorus singers.
St Dominic’s RC school had a strong
tradition of Junior Calypso since the
1970’s. The first winner the school produced
was Andrew Baptiste singing “Me I-Man” in
1978. The piece was composed by teacher
George Martin, it was later recorded at K&H
Studios by Clive Bradley and released as a
single.
The second winner the school produced was
Natasha Wilson, the photos show her
preparing for that same competition that she
eventually won. Natasha went on to become a
professional Calypsonian performing for
audiences in Trinidad and Tobago, the
Caribbean and North America. Her biggest hit
was “One Day”.
George Martin is still a teacher employed at
Mount Hope Junior Secondary school. He
composed calypsoes for all the students to
participate in the various competitions,
while at St Dominic’s. He went on to become
a Calypso Judge at the National Calypso
Monarch Competition held at Dimanche Gras
Show on Carnival Sunday Night.
The
adult male in the background is the then Principal of
the school, Herman Daly-Bridges, now deceased.
I am
not too certain of the year these photos were taken it
could have been 1981 (or ’82).

pan-jumbie the day before. You can watch it again

Continue the
great! the fantastic! job you are doing. I will say it again - if T&T could produce more sons
and daughters like you, it would be indeed a
paradise of immeasurable worth! Thank you for keeping
the culture alive. Thank you for loving it despite the
miles of water that separate you two.

Let me take this
opportunity to say that the "Pan-Jumbie" website is one of
the best sites I've been on for information and news on the
pan and the articles by Sam are really informative and
entertaining. I was not aware of the fact that he did not (physically) work there, however you can pass on my
compliments to him if you may. Jerry |

What a Great site. I am still a pan jumbie
though I remember when I had to keep it a secret. Sometimes
ignorance can destroy a good thing. Now that we have such a
wonderful forum for Pan let's continue to celebrate the
Freedom to Play it, Love it for lest we forget. Pan was born
out of Slavery and Ignorance, Congratulations on creating a
Wonderful Internet site so EVERY Creed and Race Can Find An
EQUAL PLACE. |

The general view last night
is that you stole the show and I certainly agree with
that. Monika what a breathtaking performance!! I think you will now have
to start speaking more publically. I remember my first e-mail
to you about the conference - you said you were worried
about presenting in English, I think you did better than
some of us who speak English as our first language. But
it not just this, your presentation was so awe-inspiring
and overwhelming. You were eloquent and lucid and you
kept the audience very engaged. I always knew that Pan Jumbie was successful but I had no
idea of the scale - how do you find time to respond to
us all? Monika I think you see what I am saying - we are truly
grateful for your support and the considerable amount of
work you put into this and one of the key reasons we
feel that this conference was so successful. Once again Monika, a
sincere thanks from us all. We all truly love you.

I found a link to this little gem of yours: Port
of Pan ABC. I've put an announcement of it at my front page,
while I'm thinking of a more permanent place to put the
link. I'm certainly think it is worth. Please check the text
and let me know if there is any wording you would like to
have changed. Thanks for your nice work, and thanks to
Khalick for the translation. Regards, Ulf |

It is so admirable that while not Trinidadian, you
have adopted my native country's motto "together we aspire -
together we achieve" - and that you live it. Lastly, I hope
that your vision of mutually building up a true high-end
performance global cyber panyard for our art form will be
realized. I will do my bit in whatever way I can. Peace be
yours and take care.
