Steel pans, Strings & Star Power @ Millett Hall
Apr 9 @ 7:30 pm

A mighty mash-up of steel pans, strings and star power!

Pan Rocks ’22 blasts through Millet Hall this April with rockin’ riffs for steel drums and strings. Featuring Cromer/Flory Artists-in-Residence Mark Wood and Tracy Thornton, this rock n’ roll extravaganza combines performances by Miami Steel Drum band with Miami and four area high school orchestras.

The Eddie Van Halen of the Violin World according to PBS, Mark Wood is the premier electric violinist of his generation and an original member of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Mark has dedicated his career to providing educators with the opportunity to ignite their students’ passions and to inspire students to open their minds and unlock their potential.

With hundreds of thousands of students reached, millions of dollars raised to help high school music departments across the US, and countless school orchestra programs saved from the chopping block because of funds raised through his efforts, Mark Wood has proven himself a man of ideas, action and results. Showing no signs of slowing down, the multi faceted visionary continues to write, perform, record, invent and inspire. As a matter of fact, Mark Wood is just getting started.

Pan Rocks is the brainchild of heavy metal drummer turned internationally recognized steelpannist, Tracy Thornton. Bringing as many steelpannists as possible on stage performing Rock music. Tracy has always dreamed of hearing Rock Music (his first love) performed on the Steelpan (his second love) on a stage with reckless abandonment./p>

The show is based on Tracy’s steelpan Pan Rocks albums which pay tribute to your favorite Rock, Heavy Metal and Punk Rock bands such as Led Zeppelin, Metallica, The Who, Jane’s Addiction, Black Sabbath, The Ramones, Green Day, Slayer, and Nirvana just to name a few.

Be thoroughly entertained by electric tunes and ringing pans at Pan Rocks ’22!
