The Eddie Van Halen of the Violin World according to PBS, Mark Wood is the premier electric violinist of his generation and an original member of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Mark has dedicated his career to providing educators with the opportunity to ignite their students’ passions and to inspire students to open their minds and unlock their potential.
With hundreds of thousands of students reached, millions of dollars raised to help high school music departments across the US, and countless school orchestra programs saved from the chopping block because of funds raised through his efforts, Mark Wood has proven himself a man of ideas, action and results. Showing no signs of slowing down, the multi faceted visionary continues to write, perform, record, invent and inspire. As a matter of fact, Mark Wood is just getting started.

The Virtual Steelpan Conference will be an interactive and innovative gathering of pannists, musicians, academics, and enthusiasts from a global network collaborating to establish and advance ideas for the enhancement and preservation of the steelpan art form. This event is PanNotation’s first conference. The Conference Committee would like to use its platform for sharing knowledge, discussing current topics, and networking with colleagues from around the world, among other ventures.
Liam Teague will explore “All Things Steelpan”. He will talk about the instrument’s history, construction, development of variously “voiced” steelpan instruments, its place in modern music, education trends and music repertoire, among other topics. While often associated with the sunny music of the Caribbean, the steelpan is a remarkably versatile percussion instrument that has evolved to encompass a family of instruments capable of producing any genre of music.
Attendees are asked to pre-register online.
Teague, who directs the internationally renowned Northern Illinois University Steelband, will be assisted by members of the steelband in demonstrating the instruments and playing some representative musical selections.
Teague is a professor of music and head of steelpan studies at NIU, and the recipient of an NIU Presidential Research, Scholarship and Artistry Professor Award.
